Regain let’s you preview the demo site with lots of different options and three different color schemes – grey, light and dark and the theme looks great in each version. The main focus of the homepage is a large asymmetrical grid which does a really nice job of showcasing work and this type of grid is very trendy at the moment so it’s bound to go down well with visitors.
All the other main elements on Regain – the typography, the footer and menu are all very simple but perfectly executed. It takes skill to create something very minimal yet interesting and engaging and Northeme have done exactly that.
The blog section on Regain follows the minimal style but still manages to include a unique look and feel due to the large featured images with teasers partially hidden behind them and pop out when you hover over. I’m not sure if I like that effect, maybe I’d prefer it if the teaser was already fully visible but the blog pages does look great overall.
Individual posts pages are beautiful which makes this a perfect theme for a minimal blog too. Northeme have shown their skill again here by creating a very simple post page that doesn’t look boring.
The Theme Framework
Regain is built on a powerful and easy to use framework that will allow you to configure the theme. You can choose between various sizes for headings, change the color presets, change the grid layout for the portfolio, choose between lots of Google and Typekit fonts and set up sliders and lightboxes.
Regain is an excellent portfolio and blog theme with great support from Northeme. It is also currently slightly cheaper than most premium themes making it even more attractive.
